Lyra's Project ~ Week 10 ~ Man's Best Friend

This year I've joined up with some of my colleagues from the Beautiful Beasties Network (an international group of professional pet photographers) for Project 52, to collectively challenge ourselves and our creativity with a weekly assignment. Every week a different pet photographer chooses a theme, which each person interprets in their own way. The photograph must be taken during that week, and on Friday evening (8pm Aussie time) everyone's blog posts go live. Click the link below to see the next photographer's image and continue around the blog circle until you end up back here - enjoy!

The theme for this week's pet photograph is Man's Best Friend. Those of you who follow this project or Ragamuffin Pet Photography on Facebook will know that the man in my life is Johnny and our very best friend is Lyra.

You may be surprised to learn that I was the one who was hesitant to add Lyra to our family. Johnny had always, always wanted a dog - ever since he was a little boy. He wanted to adopt a dog as soon as we moved in together! I tried my hardest to be sensible - argued that we should wait until we had graduated uni, we should wait until we had a bigger back yard, we should wait until we were older. But this man had been waiting 20+ years to meet his furry girl - he didn't want to wait any longer!

He talked [read: bugged me] about the dog that we would one day love constantly. Johnny imagined a big siberian husky male named Totoro who would sleep in our bed and be fiercely loving & loyal. Well, she's not a husky, she didn't suit the name Totoro and she certainly isn't male - but Johnny was right about one thing. Our Lyra is the most loving, most loyal girl in the world - plus she loves a cuddle! Everyday I think about how lucky I am that Johnny pushed us towards adopting her. My life would be incomplete without these two - my very best friends.

Now head over to San Francisco Bay Area Pet Photographer, Barbara Brady-Smith to see her interpretation of Man's Best Friend. Keep on clicking through the blog ring until you arrive back at Ragamuffin Pet Photography.
