Lyra's Project ~ Week 9 ~ Shoes

This year I've joined up with some of my colleagues from the Beautiful Beasties Network (an international group of professional pet photographers) for Project 52, to collectively challenge ourselves and our creativity with a weekly assignment. Every week a different pet photographer chooses a theme, which each person interprets in their own way. The photograph must be taken during that week, and on Friday evening (8pm Aussie time) everyone's blog posts go live. Click the link below to see the next photographer's image and continue around the blog circle until you end up back here - enjoy!

The theme for this week's photography was Shoes. Cudos to Jayme Dukart who thought up this theme, as I'm not going to lie - it's had me stumped all week! I couldn't think of anything that made me excited to pick up the camera (and that I hadn't already seen a thousand times before).

So come Friday morning I still hadn't shot and I was procrastinating like crazy. It's funny how the most obscure moments or objects will trigger your brain into action. I was putting away my laundry and this image popped into my head, just as I hung up the dress that I'm wearing in this portrait. Every week I get an infuriating sense that my idea is somewhere in the back of my mind and I just can't quite access it. Like I'm trying to remember a word, it's on the tip of my tongue but I can't articulate it. I would love to know the mental process that other pet photographers go through when they create an image. I wish that I had a more reliable approach than just waiting for the idea to make itself clear.

Anyway, thank goodness for laundry. This final dog portrait features Lyra, our shoes and my Dad's old stereo console which we converted into our TV cabinet. Now head on over to Nashville Dog Photographer, Kelly Coyle to see her take on shoes and keep clicking through the blog ring until you arrive back at Ragamuffin Pet Photography.
