Thank you for voting for the Ragamuffin of the Month competition - we love any excuse to celebrate the furkids of Melbourne and even better if we can raise some much funds doing it!

All voters go into the draw to win a $350 Ragamuffin Voucher, which includes a session and Print Credit. Keep your paws crossed and I'll be in contact at the end of the month if you've won! In the meantime, there is a bit of info about Ragamuffin and what we do below.

the Experience

For many people, their biggest concern about hiring a professional pet photographer is that their dogs or cats won’t “perform” for the camera. But I’m not here to photograph performers ~ I’m here to capture life.

If you are looking for photographs of your pup in his flawless show dog pose or your kitty sitting pretty on a stark white studio floor, I can't help you. My philosophy is different. Together, we will patiently explore the world through your pet's eyes. Their determination as they race through the surf in pursuit of their tennis ball. The warm lean of their body against yours as you daydream together. The soft pads of their paws, curled up in their favourite spot on your couch.

Out of the happy craziness of our afternoon spent spoiling your pet (treats! toys! places! people!), 50 artistic portraits will emerge. Your heart will burst with pride and joy when you view your photographs at the complimentary Artwork Appointment. Together, we will look through your proofs and I will help you choose the right products, sizes and images to suit your home.

This is where pet photography makes the impossible possible ~ custom artwork that will give you a lifetime with your pet. Time and time again, my clients gush with happy tears in their eyes, “I just can’t believe you managed to capture his personality so beautifully!” The combination of a natural, relaxed approach, award-winning photography and professional tricks like digital leash removal allows me to create images that don’t just show off what your pet looks like ~ I will give you photography that celebrates their soul.

“We would never use anyone else to photograph our furbabies. The ease with which Caitlin had the pups relaxed and the way she handled them
the whole afternoon made everything so simple.
She is lovely!”

Meet Caitlin

Caitlin McColl is recognised as one of the world's top Pet Photographers, having photographed thousands of dogs over the years.

She began her career as a fashion photographer, winning awards and exhibiting her work internationally. She studied fashion photography in London and then New York on a scholarship, before finally settling in Melbourne, Australia to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Photography.

Photographing beautiful people was good work, but deep down, she yearned for something more. More meaning, more passion, more SOUL.

In 2010, after adopting her scruffy dog, Lyra, it was clear what she had to do. Caitlin quit the fashion industry and launched Ragamuffin Pet Photography. She didn't have any experience photographing pets, but she had a camera round her neck, a heart full of love and her scruffy, furry family by her side.

Eight years later, Caitlin is the author of two books (Tails of Melbourne and Tails of Adoption) and founder of the Tails of Australia CollectiveShe has raised thousands of dollars for animal rescue charities, is co-host of The Pet Photographers Club podcast and through her education website, Tails of Successshe teaches aspiring pet photographers around the world how to grow their own businesses with soul.

Caitlin lives in Melbourne, Australia with her partner Benny and their scruffdogs Maple and Lyra, feline sidekick William and their bearded dragon, Hufflepuff Lizardnardo (Puff for short!)

She's a bit of an introvert and a lot of a dork. When she's not out photographing animals, you can likely find her snuggled up on the couch with her furry family and a good book.

My Full Sessions are designed to capture everything that you love about your pets. We'll spend an afternoon together, creating fun action shots, beautiful portraits and natural photos with your family. These are the most popular option, as we have no time limits and we can combine multiple locations.

The most popular location combo is starting at a park and heading to the beach, which gives us LOTS of variety (and makes for a really fun afternoon for a water-happy dog!). I also love heading into the city for quirky, urban shots (Melbourne's graffiti adds some awesome colour).

Don't worry if you're not sure about going off-leash - lots of the dogs that I photograph keep their leash on if their recall isn't 100%, then it's removed digitally later.

Pocket Sessions are designed for my clients with smaller budgets. They are a 30 minute mini-session that takes place in either Yarraville or Williamstown Gardens.

Digital files, prints and albums are priced separately and not included in the Session Fee.
Prints start at $85 and include a free digital copy for you to share and show off.
Wall Art starts at $350, Albums start at $750, Packages start at $1900 and the USB of High-Res Digital Files is $2500.

I work with all different budgets, homes and styles, but to give you a rough idea, Pocket Session clients usually invest between $500 - $900 and Full Session clients usually invest $1500+ in their finished artwork.
Credit card payments and flexible, interest-free payment plans are also available.

Sessions are available Monday - Saturday and most dates tend to book out 1-2 months in advance.

I feel like I got so much more than what I paid for. The album and prints were absolutely beautiful.
It’s obvious that Caitlin seeks out the best quality of everything for her clients.

Classic Prints

What is the difference between a Ragamuffin Classic Print and regular photo prints? Regular photo paper is made using crushed wood pulp, which does not last over the years. Instead, I use museum-quality paper, made from archival cotton rag and certified by the UK Fine Art Trade Guild. It's much thicker, lasts 75-100 years and gives the prints a gorgeous, fine art feel.

Classic Prints start from $85

Beautifully printed on archival-grade canvas, this is my favourite and most popular printing option. Each canvas is stretched over a custom made, premium meranti hardwood frame and comes with a 75 year guarantee.

Canvas Wall Art start from $350

Ragamuffin Fine Art prints finished with high quality mouldings (silver, chocolate, black, white or limewash).

Framed Wall Art start from $350

The ultimate luxury keepsake for any pet lover – tell your pet’s story with a beautiful Ragamuffin Album. They feature superior layflat, seamless binding and beautifully textured covers available in a range of colours.

Mini albums ~ $750
Keepsake albums ~ $1750

All prints and albums include a free small digital copy of each photograph that you order (with the Ragamuffin logo in the bottom corner). These are sized perfectly to share on your phone or social media - gotta show off your gorgeous new photos!

You can also purchase the USB of Digital Files - it's included in a few of my packages or available by itself. All the digital photos from your proofing gallery are rendered as high resolution jpegs, ready for you to print anywhere, any size.

USB of Digital Files ~ $2500
Keepsake Film ~ $450 (also included in all Fine Art Packages)
